Canet de Mar is located in a region of Catalonia called Maresme, just above Barcelona and below Girona. The neighboring cities are Arenys de Mar to the south and San Pol de Mar to the north.

The Catalan Maresme is a region that lies between Barcelona and the Costa Brava. It is surrounded by the Tordera, the Montnegre i el Corredor park, the Serralada Litoral and Serralada de Marina parks and the Mediterranean beaches of the east coast.

The region is an internationally renowned tourist area that combines beach, mountains, culture and gastronomy. Its hot summers and mild winters, and a wide range of services and activities attract visitors all year round.

Catalonia (Catalunya in Catalan) is an european country in the western Mediterranean constituted as an autonomous community of Spain. It is located on the northeast coast of the Iberian Peninsula, bordered to the north with France and Andorra, Aragon to the west, to the south with Valencia and to the east by the Mediterranean Sea. Catalonia is the most extensive part from the cultural and historical territory of the Principality of Catalonia and the whole of Catalan-speaking or the Catalan Countries. To differentiate it from the historical territory, it is often called autonomous community of Catalonia. With an estimated population of 7.364.078 inhabitants in 2008, it’s the second most populated autonomous community of Spain, and includes the 51.55% of the total population of the communities where the Catalan is the main language.
